Welcome to the Lovell Place

Dear Students and Families,

It is with a great deal of enthusiasm to provide you an update relative to the plans for relocating the CSE-Middle School to 1309 French Street as of January 2nd.DC-Eagles-Blue-Gold-White-1024x443

Effective January 2nd, 2018 the CSE middle school program will be renamed to “Discovery Center”. Last year we purchased new curriculum, which will maintain during the transition. The new space offers students state of the art classrooms, access to the Skills Center programming, Green space, air conditioning, and an opportunity to excel academically and socially. A benefit of the relocation will decrease our class sizes to approximately 16-18 students per class as opposed to the current 20-25 per class. Our focus remains to provide you a safe, small, learning environment where community is at our core.

We will be offering a district open house in later January and invite you to walk through the space.

As always, when parents, school, and student are working together… good things happen!

Respectfully,

Dr. Viglione

Welcome back Students and Families,

Today we embark on the new school year and I am confident the year will be successful. All three of our buildings are looking very good and represent the safe, small, learning environments we promise to provide. The only current issue that is being worked through is transportation, which I have been communicating via our website and mailing correspondence. This is a temporary issue, as we are working diligently on providing you with a more supportive mode of transportation for those who qualify. As explained in the correspondence, all student transportation is provided and coordinated by Erie’s Public Schools who is actively engaging this issue and designing a better resolution. We will keep you informed as information comes to us. Some highlights from the previous year include:

  • Attendance rates increased across the schools, at approximately: 91% at Maritime, 93% at Skills, and 77% at Leadership. Evidence that students want to attend CSE.
  • More than 45 High School students earned college credit, despite Keystone test scores, at three local universities. Evidence that our students are prepared for post-secondary success.
  • More than 100 High School students participated in our work force program, many securing employment in the community (earning more than $110,000 from local community employers). Evidence that our students are learning the soft skills needed for post-secondary employment.
  • Physical conflicts during school hours was less than 10 during the entire school year. Evidence that we are providing a safe environment (although our target number is 0).
  • More than 200 students earned honor cards, evidence that when students receive instruction that meets their level of functioning they excel.
  • More than 98% of our staff are retuning this school year. Evidence that our staff choose to remain in our system.
  • Planning began to relocate our Middle school to Lovell Place. Evidence that our decisions remain focused on the best interest of students.
  • Waiting list at all locations exist, causing the lottery system to be utilized. Evidence that the community believes the CSE mission, vision, and values.

Thank you again for choosing CSE to educate you (your children). We believe when we work together as partners in the process, success is the outcome. We do not advertise excessively, as our opinion is those dollars should be spent on the instruction of our students. However, we encourage our families to spread the message of CSE and speak proudly as a member of the CSE community. Should you have any questions or concerns for the 17-18 school year, please contact your Principal or myself directly.

Have a great school year!

Respectfully,
Dr. Viglione
